A Collective Commitment to Independent Cinema
On the afternoon of Friday, December 17, 2021, the 6th Biennial Conference of the Bangladesh Film Institute Alumni Association (BFIAA) was solemnly convened at the auditorium of Sanskriti Bikash Kendra in Paribagh, Dhaka. The assembly brought together alumni spanning multiple decades, esteemed faculty mentors, and recent course graduates in a shared dedication to independent and meaningful cinema.
The conference was presided over by outgoing president Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, with BFI Director and acclaimed filmmaker Tanvir Mokammel gracing the occasion as Chief Guest. Renowned BFI faculty members Syed Shabab Ali Arzu, Rakibul Hasan, Sagir Mostafa, and Rana Masud were in attendance as Special Guests.
In his keynote address, Tanvir Mokammel emphasized the vital historical role played by alternative cinema in Bangladesh, urging graduates to pursue filmmaking not merely as an industry trade, but as a moral responsibility and an artistic testimony to human truth. He praised the alumni association for sustaining an unbroken brotherhood of filmmakers across the nation.
In an emotional tribute to artistic mentorship, honorary crests were presented on behalf of BFIAA to BFI teachers in grateful acknowledgment of their tireless service. The ceremony also celebrated the future of cinema by awarding graduation certificates to students of the Online Filmmaking Course, culminating in the showcase screening of 9 original short films crafted during their studies.

১৭ই ডিসেম্বর (শুক্রবার) বিকেলে পরীবাগস্থ সংস্কৃতি বিকাশ কেন্দ্রে বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউট অ্যালামনাই এসোসিয়েশনের ৬ষ্ঠ দ্বি-বার্ষিক সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সম্মেলনে প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউটের পরিচালক বিশিষ্ট চলচ্চিত্রনির্মাতা তানভীর মোকাম্মেল। অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতিত্ব করেন বিদায়ী কমিটির সভাপতি ড. মোহাম্মদ জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন এবং বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউটের শিক্ষক সৈয়দ সাবাব আলী আরজু, রাকিবুল হাসান, সগীর মোস্তফা এবং রানা মাসুদ।
সম্মেলনে শিক্ষকদের পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশের বিকল্পধারার সিনেমার নানা দিক নিয়ে বক্তব্য রাখেন এসোসিয়েশনের প্রধান উপদেষ্টা জনাব তানভীর মোকাম্মেল। অনুষ্ঠানের এক পর্যায়ে এসোসিয়েশনের পক্ষ থেকে বিএফআই-য়ের শিক্ষকদের প্রদান করা হয় সম্মাননা স্মারক এবং অনলাইন ফিল্ম মেকিং কোর্সের শিক্ষার্থীদের মাঝে সনদপত্র বিতরণ করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের শেষ পর্বে কোর্সের শিক্ষার্থীদের নির্মিত ৯টি স্বল্পদৈর্ঘ্য চলচ্চিত্র প্রদর্শিত হয়।
সম্মেলনে বিকল্পধারার চলচ্চিত্রকে সামনে এগিয়ে নেওয়ার দৃঢ় প্রত্যয় নিয়ে বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউট অ্যালামনাই এসোসিয়েশনের ২০২১-২০২৩ মেয়াদের জন্যে ২১ সদস্যবিশিষ্ট কার্যনির্বাহী কমিটি গঠিত হয়।
