"We, the alumni of the Bangladesh Film Institute, inspired by the ideals of cinema, culture and creative freedom, hereby establish the Bangladesh Film Institute Alumni Association (BFIAA) to foster a vibrant community, promote film culture and contribute to the development of the national and global film landscape."
Recognizing that the Bangladesh Film Institute (BFI), founded in 2005 by acclaimed filmmaker and author Tanvir Mokammel, has over more than two decades produced a dedicated fraternity of over one thousand filmmakers, cinematographers, editors, film lovers, and cinema educators across 86+ batches who share a common artistic commitment, we establish this constitution to maintain an active, democratic, and purposeful institutional fellowship.
Name & Identity
ধারা ১: নাম ও পরিচিতি
1.1
The name of this organization shall be the Bangladesh Film Institute Alumni Association, officially abbreviated as BFIAA. In Bengali, it shall be known as বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম ইনস্টিটিউট অ্যালামনাই এসোসিয়েশন.
1.2
It shall be a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political, and independent cultural and educational organization operating under the relevant legal framework of Bangladesh.
1.3
The official publication of the association is Uralchitra (উড়ালচিত্র), a registered periodical on film culture, criticism, and screen aesthetics.
1.4
The official web presence of the Association shall be at bfiaa.bfibd.org, established as a dedicated subdomain of the Bangladesh Film Institute's central portal at bfibd.org.
Objectives
ধারা ২: লক্ষ্য ও উদ্দেশ্য
2.1
To build a strong and active alumni community of the Bangladesh Film Institute, maintaining an updated institutional register of all graduates.
2.2
To promote film culture, education, cinema appreciation, and historical film research across Bangladesh.
2.3
To organize events, film screenings, Cine Club Adda gatherings, workshops, masterclasses, and collaborative artistic initiatives.
2.4
To support emerging filmmakers, cinematographers, screenwriters, and creative practitioners through mentorship and showcase opportunities.
2.5
To publish Uralchitra and archival materials chronicling alumni filmography and the living heritage of cinema.
2.6
To cultivate meaningful institutional linkages with national and international film schools, cinematheques, and film societies worldwide.
Membership
ধারা ৩: সদস্যপদ ও প্রকারভেদ
3.1
Categories: Membership of the Association shall be structured across four distinct classes:
- General Members: All graduates who have successfully completed any certified course offered by BFI (Film Appreciation Course, Online Filmmaking Course, or specialized certificate tracks).
- Life Members: General Members who contribute a designated one-time endowment fund established by the Executive Committee, granting perpetual membership rights.
- Associate Members: Film enthusiasts and cinema patrons invited by the Executive Committee who wish to support the association's mission (non-voting).
- Patron / Advisor: Eminent national and international filmmakers, intellectuals, and educators invited by the General Body.
3.2
Rights & Privileges: General and Life Members shall have the democratic right to participate in all association activities, vote in biennial elections, stand for election to executive office, and receive official publications and festival passes.
3.3
Membership Dues: Annual membership dues and life subscriptions shall be determined by the Executive Committee and ratified by the General Body, maintaining financial accessibility for all alumni.

4.1
The association shall be governed by an elected Executive Committee (EC) comprising officers and council members:

4.2
The term of the Executive Committee shall be two (2) years from the date of official assembly election. No individual may hold the same officer role for more than two consecutive terms.
4.3
Elections shall be held in accordance with the electoral rules of the association at the Biennial General Meeting by secret ballot or open democratic consensus.
4.4
The EC shall be responsible for the overall management, fiduciary oversight, project administration, and implementation of the association's objectives and activities.
Meetings
ধারা ৫: সভা ও সম্মেলন
5.1
An Annual or Biennial General Meeting (AGM/BGM) shall be held every two years to review secretarial reports, approve financial audits, and conduct general elections.
5.2
Special or extraordinary general meetings may be called by the EC or upon written requisition by at least one-third (1/3) of valid registered members.
5.3
The Executive Committee shall convene regular bimonthly business meetings to coordinate programs and review operations.
Finance
ধারা ৬: অর্থ ও তহবিল
6.1
The association shall be financed through membership dues, publication sales, donations, institutional grants, and legitimate cultural sponsorships.
6.2
The association shall maintain a bank account in a recognized scheduled bank in Dhaka, operated under the joint signatures of the President (or General Secretary) and Treasurer.
6.3
The financial activities and statement of accounts shall be audited annually and made transparently available to the General Body.
Publications
ধারা ৭: প্রকাশনা
7.1
The association shall publish Uralchitra as its official film culture publication at least once per year, maintaining bilingual scholarly standards.
7.2
The Editor and editorial board of Uralchitra shall be appointed by the EC to oversee intellectual rigor and literary quality.
7.3
Other publications, digital catalogs, and research monographs may be produced as needed to fulfill institutional objectives.
Amendments
ধারা ৮: গঠনতন্ত্র সংশোধন
8.1
This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of valid voting members present at a convened General Assembly.
8.2
Proposed amendments must be circulated in writing to all registered members at least 15 to 21 days in advance of the scheduled assembly.
Dissolution
ধারা ৯: অবলুপ্তি
9.1
The association may be dissolved only by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of all registered members at an extraordinary General Body meeting called for this purpose.
9.2
Remaining assets after settlement of liabilities shall be transferred to the Bangladesh Film Institute or a non-profit cultural body with compatible objectives.
Patron & Advisor
ধারা ১০: প্রধান পৃষ্ঠপোষক ও উপদেষ্টা
10.1
The association shall have a Patron and an Advisory Council who provide ongoing moral guidance, creative direction, and institutional counsel.
10.2
The Founder of BFI, renowned filmmaker Tanvir Mokammel, shall serve as the permanent Chief Patron and Advisor of the association.
General Provisions
ধারা ১১: সাধারণ বিধানাবলী
11.1
The Executive Committee shall be empowered to frame subsidiary procedural rules, codes of conduct, and administrative guidelines for the smooth functioning of the association.
11.2
All matters not explicitly covered in this constitution shall be decided by the Executive Committee, subject to ratification by the General Body.
11.3
Development Protocol: The association decrees that one must work smartly. Always thoroughly verify and test your work before deploying.

This constitution was formally adopted by the General Body of BFIAA on 12 March 2009.
